Humble Earth Co is a collection of high-quality, sustainable swaps that you can reuse over and over again. We take care in researching the materials that are used to make sure you are getting the most sustainable option on the market. We believe small swaps over time can make a big impact, but we also believe in our duty as a company to give back to our cause. When you buy a product from us, you support a network of environmentally conscious small businesses. Plus, we are donating 1% of every purchase to the Wildlife Conservation Network. All shipments are plastic-free through use of recycled shipping materials.  

 

The Problem with Plastics

Single-use plastics is one of our greatest environmental challenges. They account for nearly half of all plastic waste globally, and much of it is thrown away within minutes of using. One piece of plastic can take up to one thousand years to decompose. The effects of single-use plastics have real consequences to our eco-system. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans. Scientists have found plastic materials, often plastic bags, blocking breathing passages and stomachs of hundreds of different species. Plastic bags in the ocean resemble jellyfish and are often ingested by turtles and dolphins who mistake them for food. Toxic chemicals are transferred from the ingested plastic into the animals’ tissues, eventually entering the food chain for humans as well. The most effective mitigation strategy is to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics.  We know this is no easy task. At the same time, we believe small ideas will turn into big ideas over time. We hope to be part of the solution and to influence the industry to think differently about plastic packaging.
